Issue 01.

When NASA began the launch of astronauts into space , they discovered that ballpoint pens would not work without gravity ( or zero gravity) , then the ink would not go down to the surface in which they wish to write.

Solution A) To resolve this problem, it took them 6 years and $ 12 million . They developed a pen that worked : under zero gravity, upside down, underwater, on almost any surface including glass and at a range of temperatures ranging from below freezing to over 300 degrees Celsius.

Solution B ) And what did the Russians? The Russians used a pencil !

Issue 02.
One of the most memorable case studies on Japanese management was the case of the empty soap box , which happened in one of the largest cosmetics companies in Japan. The company received a complaint from a consumer who bought a soap box and empty . Immediately the authorities isolated the problem to the assembly line , which transported all the packaged boxes of soap to the delivery department . For some reason , one soap box went empty for the assembly . The senior asked his engineers to find a good and fast solution to the problem .

Solution A) Immediately engineers took to their work to devise an X- ray high-resolution monitors handled by two people and thus monitor all soap boxes that pass through the line to make sure they were not empty. No doubt , they worked hard and fast.

Solution B) When a common employee in a small company was posed the same problem, did not enter into complications of X -rays , robots , computer or complicated equipment ; instead raised another solution: He bought a strong industrial fan and pointed it to the assembly . He turned on the fan, and while going through each box fan, which were empty just flew out of the production line .

A hotel magnate traveled to a Hindu city for a second time a year away from his first voyage , at the counter of an inferior hotel in stars to their chain , the employee smiles and greets him saying : Welcome back sir, it good to see you back in our hotel ; surprised greatly because despite being such an important person , he likes the anonymity and hard the employee would have such a good memory to know who was there a year before, I wanted to impose the same system in its chain of hotels and simple gesture that made him feel good. On his return immediately set to work on the subject their employees to find a solution to your request.

Solution A) The solution was to find the best face recognition software , database, special cameras , response time in micro seconds , employee training , etc. . Etc. At a cost of $ 2.5 million .

Solution B) magnate preferred travel again and bribe the employee of that hotel to reveal the technology applied. The employee does not accept any bribe, but humbly commented mogul as they did , he said : ” Look, sir , we have an arrangement with the taxi drivers brought up here, they ask if you have already stayed at the hotel to which it is bringing , and if yes , then when you leave your luggage here at the counter, makes a sign , and thus earn a buck . ”

Moral:Do not complicate your work! Conceived the simplest solution to PROBLEM . Learn to focus on the SOLUTION , not the PROBLEM .
